Juliana Sophia in her New York City studio, 2024
Mixed-media painter · Global traveler · New York City
Juliana Sophia has spent a lifetime collecting places. Her paintings are equal parts memory and observation — the way light falls differently in a Parisian courtyard than on a New York rooftop, or how the colors of a Kyoto market stay with you long after you've left.
Working in oils, acrylics, and mixed media, she moves fluidly between representational landscapes and deeply personal abstract pieces that explore the emotional terrain of her life's different chapters.
Juliana's exhibitions open in New York City — the creative and operational heart of her practice — then travel digitally to collectors on every continent. What begins as an intimate physical space becomes a permanent virtual destination. No passport required; the experience is the same.
Juliana curates intimate pop-up exhibitions in carefully chosen New York City spaces — converted lofts, private studios, and cultural venues. Each show is a complete sensory experience: textured originals, warm light, and the artist present to share the story behind every piece.
Every exhibition is professionally photographed and 3D-scanned at the highest resolution — preserving the texture, scale, and atmosphere of the physical space. Each painting is individually documented with close-up detail shots that capture brushstroke and material depth.
The digitized exhibition becomes a fully navigable 3D virtual gallery. Walk through the space from anywhere in the world, zoom into individual brushstrokes, read each work's story, and purchase prints or bid on originals — all from within the virtual experience.

Juliana Sophia's practice is grounded in a simple belief: that where you've been shapes what you see. Her canvases carry the residue of decades of travel — French coastlines, Asian street markets, African textiles, Caribbean light — translated through oil, acrylic, pastel, and collage into something new.
Alongside her travel-rooted representational work, Juliana creates a parallel body of abstract paintings. These explore the emotional architecture of her life's different stages — the anxiety of beginnings, the strange grief of endings, the unexpected beauty found in between.
"I don't paint places. I paint how places make me feel six months after I've left them."
— Juliana SophiaBased in New York City, Juliana presents her work through The Sophia Studios' signature hybrid model: intimate physical pop-ups that open in NYC and travel virtually to collectors worldwide.

Travel notes, process stories, and reflections on what it means to paint a life — from city to city, chapter to chapter.
I started these paintings after a trip to Île de Ré, working from photographs taken at golden hour. The black sails weren't actually black — they were a deep navy that the late light turned almost charcoal. I kept trying to paint them accurately, and kept failing, until I realized the inaccuracy was the truth...
